The
defeat of suffering, sickness and death is found in the death and
resurrection of Christ.
The Healing of the Blind Man, |
the Healing of the
Paralytic, |
and other healing miracles in which
Christ defeated suffering, sickness, and death took
place prior to the events of Holy Week, but are
commemorated later in the Paschal season. The power
of healing remains in the Church because Christ
remains in the Church through the Holy Spirit. The
Sacrament of Holy Unction, the Church's specific
prayer for healing, is offered on Holy Wednesday to
all the faithful for the healing of body, mind, and
spirit.

Troparion:
You, Who alone
are quick to help, O Christ,
show Your speedy visitation from on High
to your ailing servants;
deliver them from their infirmities, and bitter pain;
raise them up again, that they may praise and glorify You without ceasing,
through the prayers of the Theotokos,
O only Loving God.
4th Tone:
Blinded spiritually,
I come to You, O Christ,
as did the man born blind,
crying out to You in repentance:
"You are the super-bright Light of those in darkness."
3rd Tone:
As You raised up the paralytic, O Lord,
by Your divine supervision raise up my soul,
cruelly paralyzed by unseemly deeds and all manner of sin;
that, being saved, I may cry out to You:
"O Benevolent Christ, glory to Your Power!"
